This year, we have a total of 374 students, including 159 in the primary school and 215 in the secondary school. FOL continues to support the school with student sponsorship funds provided by many donors, including you. We have seen a significant decline in sponsorships since the pandemic, which has necessitated charging tuition based on ability to pay, particularly for high school, due to the significantly higher operating expenses.
Starting next year, we will be launching a university tuition assistance program. Many of our brightest students, with outstanding academic performance, would love to pursue advanced education beyond high school. Still, in reality, their families simply cannot afford it, and as a result, they will never be able to achieve their full potential. We aim to put an end to this tragedy and enable our students to pursue their dreams. Each year, we will select a few students and fund their university education, including tuition and living expenses. Once they graduate and enter the workforce, they will repay the loan, which will then be used to educate the next generation of students.
This is not something that has ever been done in Uganda to our knowledge, but we are excited to blaze a new trail in this experiment.
